Against relentless persuasion and initiatives, government created 43 new positions in existing and new medical colleges including the position of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, registrar and assistant registers. Government has already posted specialist physicians against the positions which enabled offering medical services for pediatric nephrology patients across the country. However, still there are scopes of posting specialist physicians against vacant positions.
BSMMU has been offering Doctor of Medicine (MD) course in Pediatric Nephrology discipline since long before commencement of PNSB. At continual inspiration of PNSB, NIKDU and BICH have started MD and FCPS courses respectively. 12 physicians has been conferred MD and they are serving various medical colleges of the country. An Indian student has also been conferred FCPS who is working with name and fame in his home country.
14 physicians have already been enrolled in MD residency program at Pediatric Nephrology department of BSMMU including a physician who already earned FCPS degree. We have a number of physicians working for postgraduate medical institutes after completing higher training in UK, India, Australia and Singapore. One of our assistant professors is undergoing training program at Singapore. PNSB strongly expects that a number of member-physicians shall join higher training program at National University Hospital of Singapore and All-India Institute of Medical Science. Such initiatives are underway.
Desertions of the researches conducted by physicians with higher education have already been published in renowned journals. A number of specialist physicians has participated in international conferences and few of them have presented papers there. A member physician has been invited to present a paper at Asian Pediatric Congress held in 2011. PNSB has already published few editions of News Bulletin, which shall be continued hence forth. In 2006, PNSB has been recognized as associate member of Asian Pediatric Nephrology Association (APNA). PNSB is coordinating with International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) for affiliation, which is expected to be materialized shortly.
Since inception of PNSB, a number of CME have already been organized to discuss various aspects and issues related to pediatric nephrology. This type of program shall be organized more frequently. PNSB organized 2 international conferences in 2005 and 2007 where a number of pediatric nephrologists from home and abroad had joined.
PNSB has been working on development of a comprehensive guideline for treatment of kidney diseases of pediatric patients, which is expected to be completed shortly. This guideline is expected to facilitate adoption of a standardized protocol across the country in rendering treatment services for kidney diseases of pediatric patients.
